The picturesque city of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, in Walworth County, has a rich history, from the time of early settlers to present day. Settlers first arrived in Lake Geneva in the early 1830s drawn to the area for abundant fresh water and fertile land. The city was first established in 1836, along with a footpath called the Geneva Lake Shore Path that circles Geneva Lake.

“Big Foot Lake” was the name given to Geneva Lake. In 1835, the lake was renamed Geneva Lake. One wonderful reason to visit Lake Geneva is to walk this historic path. This shoreline path circles the lake along nearly 26 miles of varied terrain, passing Lake Geneva’s historic lake homes, beaches, and public parks.

Geneva Lake
One of the main draws for visitors to the region is Geneva Lake, a 5,401 acre lake in Walworth County, Wisconsin. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 135 feet! Geneva Lake is an excellent fishing lake, with Northern Pike, Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass, Walleye, and Trout. Access to the lake includes numerous public boat landings and beaches.
Geneva Lake Shore Path
At just under 26 miles in length, the Geneva Lake Shore Path takes between 8-10 hours to walk, depending on your pace. The path provides a unique look into the history of Lake Geneva and its early settlers. Beautiful lakefront estates will make your jaw drop in awe, and beaches and public parks throughout the path are wonderful places to stop for a snack or some hydration. Comfortable and stable shoes are a must, as the path varies from brick and concrete to grass, and dirt. Exposed tree roots and slick spots exist along rocky sections of the path.
